Fernández (born 17 January 2001) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays for Chelsea in the Premier League and for the Argentina national team.
Fernández made his first-team debut for River Plate in 2019 and subsequently spent two loan seasons with Defensa y Justicia. During this time, he was able to achieve great success, culminating in claiming the Copa Sudamericana and Recopa Sudamericana titles.
After returning to River Plate in 2021, the academy graduate earned his place as an important member of the club’s roster, helping them become victorious in the 2021 Argentine Primera División.

Enzo Fernandez Career Pathway
The central midfielder Fernandez progressed through River’s legendary academy system before being called up to the reserve squad in early 2019. A week after his 18th birthday, he was named to River’s first-team bench for their defeat to Patronato, marking yet another significant milestone in his fledgling senior career.

As South America’s equivalent to the Europa League, the Copa Sudamericana was where Fernandez and the Hawks excelled. In January 2021, he played both legs of a 4-2 aggregate semi-final victory over Chile’s Coquimbo Unido, then played in the final against Argentinean rivals Lanus. The first honour for Defensa y Justicia in a generation, and first in continental competition, was won 3-0.
Fernandez then won a second international match. He played both legs of the Recopa Sudamericana, CONMEBOL’s equivalent to the UEFA Super Cup.
